How It Works
Object Tracking Radar
Smartmicro Radar sensors are projecting a low power microwave beam on the road and capture all objects inside the field of view. The patented FMSK Radar principle allows real time direct measurement of range, speed and azimuth angle of all reflectors simultaneously even in complex situations. Detection happens many times per second, the data are tracked over time. As a result all objects in the field of view will be reliably detected and reported with excellent precision for position, speed vector and lane index.
Forward Firing Operation
Other than traditional side firing sensors with narrow beams, the innovative forward looking wide beam operation has many advantages. Vehicles are inside the field of view for a much longer time, their position and speed vector can be measured with much higher quality. Lane change manoevers are no problem and the chance for vehicles occluding each other is much smaller.
2DHD Dual High Resolution
Older traffic counting Radars provide resolution in one dimension: range. This is because of the side firing priciple, where any object is illuminated only for a minimum amount of time when passing a narrow beam. No resolution in speed is available then. The latest Smartmicro forward firing Radar models however will provide separation in two dimensions: range and speed - 2DHD for significantly better traffic detection performance. Read more...
Double Redundant Speed Measurement
All Radars provide a double redundant speed measurement with two receive antennas, direct Doppler measurement and range rate measurement. This does not only make the speed measurement very precise but also allows built-in verfification of every single measured speed value.
Flexible Installation
Installation is possible at the road side, at the corner of an intersection, on a mast arm or a gantry on top of the road. For multiple lanes, multiple measurement points along each lane may be configured. Those may be used as detection points, effectively representing inductive loops for measuring vehicle presence near intersections.
Statistics Module
The statistics function provides per lane volume, occupancy, classification, vehicle presence, wrong way detection and more.
Event Trigger Module
The Event Trigger Module enables the user to define events for which the sensor sends out a trigger signal. Events may be presence, wrong way, ETA[1] , speed, queue length and more.
Setup Software
In order to setup the sensor conveniently and straight forward the Traffic Management Configurator is available.
Features
Modular application software design - with this most versatile technology, functions like stop bar detection, advance detection and/or enforcement and traffic statistics can be combined in one sensor if required.
Handles both moving and stopped traffic.
Cost efficient integrated solution (Radar sensor and detection algorithms all in one box) one single sensor replaces multiple other detectors.
Detects, tracks and classifies traffic (3D object tracking Radar - multi lane traffic detector).
Precisely measures position (x,y), lane index and speed vector for each object.
Up to 64 objects simultaneously (trucks, vehicles, motorbikes, bicycles, pedestrians).
Operates for 4 lanes (and more) up to 300m (1000feet).
Very precise speed measurement 0.1m/s up to 84m/s (300km/h).
Counting: measures per lane and for multiple measurement lines vehicle volume, occupany, 85th percentile speed, gap, headway and more.
Triggering: event based triggering for presence, wrong way, ETA[1], speed, queue length and custom applications in user defined zones.
On board self-calibration and diagnostics.
Flexible Installation: at the road side, at the corner of an intersection, on a mast arm or a gantry on top of the road. Low installation cost, quick installation and configuration.
All weather operation, high availability.
Small, lightweight, robust.
Long lifetime.
Maintenance free.
Four antenna versions available.
Multiple interface options.
Multiple sensors can be switched together to a network plug-and-play, will work free of interference on a four-way intersection.
