SMS GmbH is developing hi-performance radar technology. The main product line is the UMRR family of radar sensors. The name UMRR stands for
Universal Medium Range Radar
The main features of this radar platform are:

- Direct range, speed and angle measurement.
- Multitarget capability.
- Flexible transmit waveform, detection- and tracking software, adaptable for different applications.

Beside waveform-, DSP- and signal processing questions, SMS is also doing research and development to improve all modules of the hardware of the UMRR radar devices. Among those is the development of improved RF sub-modules, MMICs for the RF module, ASICs, antennae, radomes and housings.
Using 3D simulations, the operation of the UMRR using millimeter wave radiation can be visualized and optimized (see also the top picture on this page). In the picture below an narrow beam type antenna pattern is shown.
